Ice Cream Social

Ice Cream Social ~ Friday, August 4th, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.  The menu this year is our church noodles with chicken, shredded chicken sandwiches, sloppy joes, hot dogs, brats (grilled on site), cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, homemade pies and cakes, beverages, and Riverside Ice Cream chocolate, vanilla, and butter pecan.  Prices are reasonable and the food is always delicious. There are sign-up sheets in the Atrium for Ice Cream Social Workers.  Flyers are available on the publications table in the sanctuary for you to put where you work, shop, get your hair cut, exercise, or socialize. Please encourage your family, friends and co-workers to dine with us!

 

Organ Workshop & Organ Dedication Concert

Organ Workshop ~ Saturday, July 15th, at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary.

Organists and organ music lovers are welcome to attend a free workshop presented by renowned organist Dan Miller.  Dan will offer tips and practical suggestions to organists to expand their opportunities for creative selection of organ stops and managing the console functions.  Dan will also offer useful organ music repertoire ideas, always of interest to any organist!

The organ should:

  • be friendly, warm, inviting, fun!
  • joyfully celebrate or prayerfully meditate
  • be user-friendly
  • offer unlimited creativity
  • enhance worship

Workshop focus:

  • Explore creative organ stop and ensemble selections for any worship style
  • Learn solutions for record/playback
  • Discover useful repertoire including free internet downloads
  • Make me sound good!
  • Free organ music by Dan Miller will be given to each attendee

 Organ Dedication Concert, by Dan Miller ~ July 16th at 4 p.m.

We have a date for our new organ dedication with a concert put on by Rogers Organs and organist Dan Miller.  So be prepared to enjoy hearing the different sounds our organ can produce all in one afternoon.  We will serve light refreshments and enjoy a time of fellowship afterwards.

Dan Miller is an internationally renowned musician.  He has taught music, conducted choirs and orchestras, and managed large concert productions and music conferences.  He is respected as an innovative leader in handbells.  Mr. Miller is well-known for his composing and arranging and has several published works.  He has been seen and heard live in concert and through recordings on radio, television, and the internet.  He has been the featured solo organist with several symphony orchestras.  Dan Miller has recorded 22 organ compact discs. Mr. Miller is in his 18th year at Rodgers Instruments, one of the world’s leading organ builders, in Hillsboro, Oregon, as Rodgers Artist and Tonal Professional. He also is an Adjunct Professor of Organ at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon.

A church organist since age fifteen, Dan Miller has served at several notable churches. At Calvary Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, he presided over the world’s thirteenth largest pipe organ; at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he served as assistant organist to Diane Bish.  Currently Dan is the Organist for St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Beaverton, Oregon. He also serves many churches nationwide as Guest Organist for their worship services.

Mr. Miller holds a Church Music Diploma from Moody Bible Institute.  He majored in organ performance at the American Conservatory of Music, holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Florida Atlantic University, and a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance from Winthrop University.

Dan and his wife live in Hillsboro, Oregon. They have two children and four grandchildren.

T.E.A. on Tuesdays

TEA on Tuesdays – Stop by Panera Bread on Tuesdays at 9:30 for TEA (Teaching, Encouraging, and Achieving.)  We’ll have a brief devotion, discussion and lunch, of course!  When in question, please call Linda Cook.
